Plea Options
1. Plea of Guilty/No-Contest:
You may decide to pay the violation fine(s) and costs on the ticket. The amount you owe will be known by the cashiers in Municipal Court. You may inquire as to the fine amount by calling
(806) 775-2473, or by visiting the court at 915 Avenue J
Paying by Mail: You may pay your traffic ticket by mail. Make your check or money order payable to
"Lubbock Municipal Court", and include your 8 digit ticket number somewhere on your payment. Sign the waver on the back of the citation, then enclose your payment and your citation in the envelope provided (attached to your ticket). Please note you will need to affix the proper postage to the envelope before mailing. The payment must reach the Court within twelve (12) days of when the citation was issued, therefore you should mail it far enough in advance to ensure adequate time for delivery by the Post Office.

1-A. Appear in person, at the Court, within twelve (12) days. If you decide to pay your fine(s) [instead of exercising any of these other options], but you cannot pay the fine(s) all at once, you may pay out the fines(s) on an interest-free payout plan. Information is available from the court cashiers.

1-B. If you are unable to pay part or all of your fine, you may be granted an extension of time under allowable circumstances. Information is available from the cashiers. Contact the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office for advance approval if you are eligible for the Work Release program. Request for extension must be made in person or received in writing within the appearance period.

1-C. If you qualify, you have the right to take a driving safety course (Defensive Driving) and have a pending violation dismissed. Information my be obtained from the cashiers. Request for Defensive Driving must be made in person or received in writing within the appearance period.

1-D. You may also be eligible for "deferred adjudication", a short-term, informal probation. This program allows you to pay the amount of the violation (fine and costs) and have the violation dismissed if you successfully complete your probation. You may also be required to take a driving safety course as required by state law and as a condition of your probation. You could also be required to fulfill other terms and conditions of probation, depending on the circumstances of your case. The judge has final authority as to any terms and conditions of probation. Request of Deferred Adjudication must be made in person or received in writing within the appearance period.

2. Plea of Not Guilty:
Appear in person, at the Court, within twelve (12) days. You may set the ticket for trial and require the State to prove the charges against you.
NOTE: a bond (cash, surety or, in some cases, attorney appearance) may be required in order to set a ticket for trial. Upon release from jail, you
MUST appear before the court promptly to sign the trial setting documentation. Information regarding this option may be obtained from the judge’s secretary at
(806) 775-2462. A case may be set for trial by making arrangements at the court during business hours.

3. Teen Court:
If you were under 18 years of age or were enrolled in high school at the time you received the ticket, you may also be eligible for Teen Court. Information on this option may be obtained by calling
(806) 775-2461 or by coming to the court. You must appear in person, at the Court, within twelve (12) days of the date you received the citation.
NOTE: An individual under 17 years of age cannot exercise one of the options without appearing at the court in the company of the individual’s parent or legal guardian.
